Mary Madison, MPA, MALS
Mary Madison, MPA is an independent health care consultant bringing over 30 years of experience in the areas of managed care, health insurance, private healthcare foundations, hospital administration and government programs. Currently, she works closely with executive health care clients to optimize market opportunities and alliance stakeholder development. Prior to consulting, she was the Executive Director, Alliance Development, HealthCore, Inc. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Anthem, Inc.). In this capacity, she managed HealthCore’s client relationships with private/public sector health organizations to advance the integration and use of clinical and claims data for research and health care operations purposes.
Prior to her position at HealthCore, Ms. Madison served as the Executive Director, AHIMA Foundation (American Health Information Management Association) where she led the Foundation in areas of research and policy in the health information management and technology space. As President of her own consulting practice, Madison Consulting Group, LLC, she focused on strategic positioning of health care companies (including start-ups).
Previously, she spent 10 years at the Chicago-based Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association where she was the Managing Director for applied research, strategic initiatives and competitive intelligence. Ms. Madison led multi-institutional health services research with BCBS Plans nationwide, including pay-for-performance, obesity and specialty drug studies, and conducted analyses of managed care accreditation standards. She also developed and directed two national awards programs: “Best of Blue” and “BlueWorks”– recognizing innovation and best practices in clinical, operational and research programs adopted by BCBS health plans. Currently, she serves as a national judge for the annual URAC’s annual national awards program.
Ms. Madison has presented at national conferences, serves on several Boards, and has been published in peer reviewed journals. She holds a BA in psychology from Northwestern University, MA in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago, MALS in English Literature from Wesleyan University and MPA from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
